Chocolate Orange Banana Bread

While I try to  continue on the health buzz for 2022, I am definitely starting to miss the odd treat, especially chocolate!

Therefore, I have decided to concoct this recipe for all fellow chocolate fans out there. 

This delicious Chocolate Orange Banana Bread contains little drops of heaven....I mean, dark chocolate! Which apparently, is actually very good for you!....

Did you know that dark chocolate is a powerful source of antioxidants and can even help to lower your blood pressure and improve blood flow?  Who knew?!...

This yummy bread will help combat those cravings, plus, knowing the healthy facts on dark chocolate,certainly eases any unnecessary guilt :)


What you will need ~

  • Small Loaf tin
  • Parchment paper
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Medium bowl
  • Spatula
  • Wooden spoon
  • Fork
  • A Grater
  • Wire rack

Ingredients ~

  • 270 gm Plain flour
  • 2 Large bananas (Make sure they are ripe)
  • 1 Large Orange
  • 70 gm Dark Chocolate Chips
  • 70 gm Low fat butter
  • 70 gm Honey
  • 40 gm Low fat yogurt
  • 1 Tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 Tbsp of Bicarbonate of Soda
  • 2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Medium Egg  ~ Free Range ~  because we love chickens! 

Method ~

  • Pre heat your oven to 180 degrees.
  • Line your small loaf tin with parchment paper.
  • In your large mixing bowl, add in your flour, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda.
  • In your medium bowl, peel and add your 2 bananas. Mash them up using your fork.
  • Add in the rest of your wet ingredients into the medium bowl (Butter, honey, yogurt, vanilla & egg) and mix well with your wooden spoon.
  • Grate the orange with your grater. Add the zest into the medium bowl.
  • Slice the orange in half, and squeeze in the juice as well. (Be sure to catch any pips that may fall in) Mix well with your wooden spoon.
  • Now, add all of your wet ingredients to the dry ingredients in the large bowl, and mix them together until they are fully combined.
  • Lastly, pour in the dark chocolate chips and stir gently.
  • Pour the mixture into your lined loaf tin and spread the mixture evenly with your spatula.
  • Bake in the oven for 25 minutes initially. Then remove, and cover the loaf tin with some lose tinfoil. return to your oven again and bake for a further 20 minutes until the bread is cooked through. (You can check it is baked through by using a long skewer. If it comes out wet, pop it back in the oven. It is fully baked when the skewer comes out dry).
  • Once baked, remove the tin from your oven and let it cool aside for 5 minutes before transferring it to your wire rack to cool completely.
  • Cut into generous slices and serve.
