Halloween Hot Chocolate Bombs

These Halloween Chocolate bombs are so much fun to make!  If you're planning a spooky Halloween party, you can make these for your friends, or you can create them as gifts!

Either way, these hot chocolate bombs are perfect if you fancy something Spooktacular while watching the latest scary movie....

Give them a go, and see what kind of designs you can come up with! Here are a few simple ideas to get you started.

What you will need:

  • A Melting Pot
  • A Spatula
  • Some Candy Melts (I like to use the PME Candy Buttons as they come in a variety of colours)
  • Cooking Chocolate
  • Sphere shaped chocolate Mould
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Hot Chocolate powder
  • Sprinkles
  • A spoon
  • A small non stick frying pan
  • A piping bag

Instructions:

  • Turn on your melting pot and add in your candy melts. I usually use a third of the pack to fill my mould (approx. 110 grams). This makes 3 chocolate bombs.
  • Stir gently with your spatula to ensure they melt evenly.
  • Once melted, spoon in some chocolate into each mould. Make sure to apply a thick layer of chocolate, as they can be fragile otherwise.
  • It's best to cover it as evenly as possible, and spread it up the sides of the mould. Tap the mould on the counter to remove any air bubbles.
  • Pop the mould into the fridge to set. This usually takes less than 5 minutes.
  • Once set, gently pop the spheres out of the moulds onto a non stick tray.
  • Gently pick up half a sphere and fill it with 1 tablespoon of chocolate powder and 1 teaspoon of mini marshmallows. Leave it to the side for the moment.
  • Take your non stick frying pan and put it on a very low heat.
  • With the other half sphere, place it in the centre of the frying pan for 1 to 2 seconds. This will help to melt down the edging and make it easy to stick.
  • Pick up your filled half sphere and place the other half sphere on top to form an actual sphere shape. Hold gently for a couple of seconds to ensure they stick together properly. Continue until all 3 spheres are completed.

To Decorate:

  • Melt some cooking chocolate in your melting pot.
  • Stir until melted evenly
  • Let it cool slightly as this can get quite hot
  • Fill a piping bag with the melted chocolate.
  • Carefully cut the end of the bag witha scissors, making a small hole for the chocolate to drip out.
  • Drizzle the chocolate over the bombs in a zig zag motion.
  • Top with sprinkles and edible eyes for some fun effects.
  • Let them dry completely.
  • Place into small cupcake cases for presentation and place in a cupcake box if you are gifting them to a friend.

To use:

  • Simply put the hot chocolate bomb into your favourite Halloween mug.
  • Pour over some warm milk and watch it explode!
  • Enjoy!
